Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about Flights

  1. What is a Flight?

A Flight is the set of three activities that are scheduled for a Flight Group (6 men and 6 women) to participate in. For example, a Flight was sent to the Alameda Naval Air Museum for three consecutive weekends to catalogue its 80 years of books, periodicals and military publications. More than half of your Flights will be volunteering on various community benefit projects with our non-profit partners. Other Flights will be cultural, educational or just plain fun. We strive to make all our Flights meaningful and clearly focused. You’ll see your prospective dates in real life, natural situations.

  2. How long is each Flight?

    Flights
are a series of three activities. Each activity lasts two to three hours. Your group meets 3 times over the course of 3 to 4 weeks.

  3. Can I attend more than one Flight?

Although it is possible to participate in two different Flight groups simultaneously, we ask you to respect the commitments you’ve made to your Flight group by attending all your scheduled activities. Once a scheduled set of activities has concluded, the process repeats and you’ll be given options for your next Flight.

  4. What sort of Flights will I go on with my group?

Our Flights are designed to be enjoyable and not overly taxing. We consider your preferences and provide opportunities for real accomplishment. We may work in a public garden, restore a creek, help out in a museum, take a cooking class or attend a tasting event.

  5. Do I get to choose the type of Flights I go on?

You'll be presented with three potential Flights that we think you'll be interested in. Based on your preferences and those of your fellow group members we create the Flight that works best for the group. Our Flights will be appropriate for your physical preferences. You will never be pressured to do anything that causes you discomfort of risks injury.

  6. How will I know that my Flights have been scheduled?

Our preferred method of contact is email. If you have a special need, we will happily contact you by telephone. Your privacy is important to us, and we will never embarrass you by leaving a message that may cause you discomfort with family, friends or co-workers.

  7. What about special events?

Some of our special events may be a single day activity, but you’ll be attending with previous Flight group members who you already know. You won’t be wandering around in a sea of strangers. We have a team continually arranging great Flight activities and single-day events.

We love getting new ideas for fun things to do from our members. We’ll continually adjust our offerings based on the feedback we get from you.

Questions about Flight Groups

  1. What is a Flight Group?

Your Flight will be gender balanced and made up of compatible, eligible singles with complementary social styles. You can get to know others in your group while working on projects. Frequent contact lets you easily and comfortably transition from an acquaintance to a friend into a dating relationship.

  2. How will you determine my Flight?

    Flight
groups are created using the information you provide us about yourself when you become a Member. We use your questionnaire and your private interview to best understand your goals and to place you with other members.

  3. How many people will be in my Flight?

Most Flights have twelve people and are gender balanced. We find this to be a suitable number in general.

  4. How many Flight groups can I expect to experience?

The number of Flights you choose to attend is up to you; however, we recommend attending at least 3 Flights. When a new Flight group is forming for you, it’s easy to opt in or out.

  5. What happens if I meet someone on a Flight that I’d like to get to know better?

We encourage you to take your time getting to know your other Flight members. As the last scheduled activity in your Flight approaches, please do share contact information with anyone you want to stay in touch with. If something comes up that prevents this from happening naturally, Member Services can facilitate passing on your contact information to another Member after the last Flight concludes.

  6. What should I do if someone in my Flight makes me feel uncomfortable?

We strive to create an enjoyable and relaxed environment. Should you ever feel uncomfortable for any reason on a Flight, we strongly encourage you to bring your concern immediately to the attention of your Flight Host or afterward to Member Services. We can handle the matter in a number of confidential ways.

  7. How do I know if I will be comfortable meeting a group of new people?

Meeting new people for the first time can feel a little intimidating. Your Flights are designed with interaction in mind. We believe that the power of multiple, weekly contacts in a very natural and relaxed setting will overcome any shyness you may feel. We never want Members to feel like they need to be aggressive in getting to know other Members. Take your time and have fun.

Our Matches That Matter™ Flight Host will introduce you to the other Members of your Flight group and make sure you are comfortable. While we try to let the group dynamics run their natural course, your Flight Host is always there if you are having a bit of trouble mixing; just let us know.

  8. What if I’m hard to place into a Flight group?

At times, based on your stated preferences, we may find that we have a limited number of members with compatible preferences. If we anticipate having difficulty matching you based on what you and our other members are looking for, we’ll let you know early.

Questions about scheduling

  1. How will I know that my Flights have been scheduled?

Our preferred method of contact is email. If you have a special need, let us know. Your privacy is important to us, and we will never embarrass you by leaving a message that may cause you discomfort with family, friends or co-workers.

  2. I have a busy schedule. How much time do I have to commit?

It takes less than an hour to complete a questionnaire and interview, and each Flight lasts approximately 2-3 hours, once a week. Since we plan all the logistics it saves you valuable time. Going on a 3-week Flight means you’ll become friends with a small group of eligible individuals in as little as 6-9 hours. The Flight group often chooses to go out for a meal together at the conclusion of the last segment of their Flight, but that is always optional.

  3. What if I can’t make a scheduled Flight?

We believe that frequency is important and attending the events gives this process time to work. However, we fully understand that the unexpected can happen and not every Member will be able to attend every Flight activity they are scheduled to attend. Please contact Member Services as soon as you know of a scheduling conflict and they will be happy to assist you.

Questions about privacy

  1. Will my membership information be kept confidential?

Confidentiality is one of our highest priorities. We do not share Member last names at any of our Flights or special events. 3. Why are there no online profiles?

Online dating has proven to be seductive in its promise to help you find someone quickly. But, people's real world experiences have proven frustrating and misleading. Dating profiles are attractive to computers, not people.

We remove the misunderstandings, biases and assumptions that are so common with online services. At Matches That Matter™, we do the work for you. We get to know you - your interests, your likes, your criteria. We use our expertise to assemble groups of compatible members for our small group activities.

  4. If I am interested in someone from my Flight, how can I get their contact information?

As the last scheduled activity in your Flight approaches, please do share contact information with anyone you want to stay in touch with. If something comes up that prevents this from happening naturally, Member Services can facilitate passing on your contact information to another Member after the last Flight concludes.

  5. Are there any additional costs?

From time to time, we may offer a single day event that has a charge imposed by the provider of the activity. Examples of this might be a wine tasting, show entrance fees or a meal event. Our members have indicated that many of the fee-based activities were of particular interest to them. Participation in fee-based, single-day events is always optional. Of course travel to and from the event and Flight locations is covered by you.

Our service commitment is primarily to create compatible Flight groups and manage Flights. We will make every effort to earn your satisfaction with our service, but we cannot guarantee you’ll find a suitable match in every Flight group.

Some optional Flights will be offered that have a small associated fee that goes to the third-party provider of the experience. We cannot refund those fees, but we will make every effort on your behalf to address your complaint with the third party.
